Big Bats Complete UIW Sweep

It was a day for the big lumber to roll out for Incarnate Word as the Cardinals completed a Heartland Conference sweep of Oklahoma Panhandle.

Now 16-11 for the year and riding a six-game winning streak the Cardinals remain atop the Heartland with their 6-0 mark.  Oklahoma Panhandle slips to 2-17 and 0-6 in the league.

UIW got all it would need in the bottom of the first when with one out Melanie Padilla went out of the park with a two-run blast to right field.  Shortly thereafter Monica Acuna sent one over the left field wall as the Cardinals posted five runs on five hits.

Briana Sanchez would take it from there.  Working a complete six-inning game she allowed but two hits while walking three and whiffing 13.  She earned all three wins in the weekend series and is now 12-3 for the year.

The third Incarnate Word home run came off the bat of Sarah Holub and was in the bottom of the sixth sending the game to the run-rule at 8-0.

Next up for the Cardinals is a Monday doubleheader at Abilene Christian.
