UTPB Women’s Soccer Dominates Texas A&M International, 4-1

The UTPB women’s soccer team dominated visiting Texas A&M International on Saturday afternoon by a score of 4-1.  The win moves the Lady Falcons to 4-11-1 overall and 2-7-1 in conference play while TAMIU falls to 0-14-1 overall and 0-8 in Heartland Conference action.

Brandy Watts got UTPB on the board just 23 minutes into the contest when Kaylen Gerkey crossed a pass into the box, where Watts punched it in from eight yards out.  Then, with 36 seconds left in the opening half, Sadie Moya found Hannah Dozier, who maneuvered past the goalie and scored to put the host up 2-0 at halftime.

Kaylen Gerkey picked up her second assist of the day at the 57 minute mark when her corner kick to the front of the box was put home by Tesla De La Pena to make it 3-0.  The Lady Falcons final goal would come at the 63:32 mark when Kaylen Gerkey made a spectacular one-on-one move and scored from about 15 yards out, giving UTPB a 4-0 lead.

The Lady Dustdevils would be fortunate to get on the board in the final few minutes.  A shot on goal was saved by UTPB’s Victoria Ramirez, who then dropped the ball well after the catch.  The ball would fall into the nets for the only TAMIU point of the day.

The Lady Falcons will return to action Wednesday, October 28, 2009 when they travel to Angelo , TX .  UTPB will battle Angelo State in non-conference action that is set to begin at 3:00pm.
