With a combined overall grade point average 3.24, Dallas Baptist has been recognized for achieving the highest GPA among the athletics programs in the Heartland Conference for the 2009-2010 academic year.
The Dallas Baptist men’s teams maintained a 3.12 GPA, the highest for a men’s program in the league, while the women held down a 3.31 mark. The honor for the highest women’s program goes to Newman with a 3.35 combined GPA.
Incarnate Word ranked second overall behind Dallas Baptist with a 3.19 GPA for its athletic programs.
“Overall, the Heartland Conference had a 3.04 GPA for student-athletes,” said Tony Stigliano, commissioner of the conference. “The academic success of our student-athletes is the highest priority for our conference and while we continue to work to improve our overall academic performance, we are very pleased with the combined GPA of our student-athletes and member institutions.”
