Hitter of the Week
Jaime Bustamante, Lubbock Christian
Shortstop, Sr., Presidio, Texas
LCU went 3-1 on the week in a home series against Adams State with Bustamante starting all four games and recording a trio of multi-hit games. Bustamante has now hit safely in each of the Chaps’ first eight games this season. He hit .467 on the week (7-for-15) and produced a 1.000 slugging mark with three doubles, a triple and a home run giving him five extra-base. His home run was a bottom of the ninth inning walk-off for a victory Thursday night over ASU. He produced a .550 on-base percentage for the week and racked up eight runs while driving in four himself. This is Bustamante’s first player of the week award this season.
Pitcher of the Week
Tanner Lawson, St. Edward’s
LHP, So., Spring, Texas
Lawson was dominant in his second start as a Hilltopper, tossing eighth innings of five-hit baseball with 12 strikeouts as he led St. Edward's past Harding 10-3. He allowed just one run and walked only one batter as opponents hit just .179 against him. His 12 strikeouts were just one short of SEU's top-10 list for strikeouts in a single game. The win secured a split with Harding in a double header before the Hilltoppers eventually took two of three in the series. This is Lawson’s first career player of the week honor.
