WACO, Texas - A pair of sophomores garnered recognition as St. Mary’s Emilio Gonzalez and Dallas Baptist University’s Addison Mitchell were named the Heartland Golfers of the Week for tournaments played from Sept. 13 - Sept. 19.
Men’s Golfer of the Week
Emilio Gonzalez, St. Mary’s
Sophomore, San Miguel, Mexico
Emilio Gonzalez led the Rattlers to a seventh place finish at the Sonoma State Invitational after carding a team-best 235 for the tournament. The sophomore saved his best round for last, firing a final round 4-over par 76 as the Rattlers posted the third-lowest score in the field on Day 2. Gonzalez's performance comes one week after tying for fourth at the Ryan Palmer Invite, where St. Mary's claimed its second-straight victory at that event. This is Gonzalez’s first weekly award this season.
Women’s Golfer of the Week
Addison Mitchell, DBU
Sophomore, Fort Smith, Ark.
DBU sophomore Addison Mitchell helped lift the Lady Patriots to a team title at the Skyhawks West Regional Preview in Durango, Colorado, after finishing tops on the individual leaderboard with a 1-over par, 143. In a field that featured six teams ranked in the top 20, Mitchell guided DBU to their first tournament title this fall and notched her fourth career victory. Mitchell's first round score of 1-under, 69, tied for the best score in the tournament and she paced the field of 100 golfers with 27 pars. This is Mitchell’s first golfer of the week honor this season.
