The Dallas Baptist University Lady Patriot Volleyball Team made their debut in the Heartland Conference Tournament on Friday, November 13 as they defeated the University of the Incarnate Word Lady Cardinals by the score of 3-1. With the win, the Lady Patriots improved their overall season record to 19-16 and moved to 11-4 in Heartland Conference play.
Senior Tiffany Coffey came off the bench and led DBU in the win on the offensive side of the ball as she recorded a team high 14 kills for the Lady Patriots.
UIW came out strong in the first set, taking an early lead over the Lady Patriots 20-12. DBU was able to claw their way back to tie the Lady Cardinals 20-20, as Senior Lauren Zegarelli served eight straight points. UIW’s Edie Weise helped to finish off DBU in the first set as they took a 1-0 lead.
The Lady Patriots found their rhythm in the second set defeating UIW 25-16 to tie the match 1-1. DBU was able to carry their confidence into the third and fourth set, winning three straight to defeat the Lady Cardinals to advance to the Heartland Conference Championship game.
The Lady Patriots are back in action tomorrow as they face St. Edwards University Lady Hilltoppers in the Heartland Conference Championship game. The winner will receive an automatic bid into the NCAA South Central Regional Tournament. The championship match begins at 5:00 p.m in Austin, Texas.
