Hilltoppers Take Fourth Straight Victory, Down Dallas Baptist, 9-0

The St. Edward’s men’s tennis took each set against Heartland Conference rival Dallas Baptist 9-0, Monday afternoon at the Emmett Strohmeyer Varsity Courts. The match was declared senior day in recognition of the five graduating Hilltoppers.

St. Edward’s (10-9) started with a quick doubles victory in the No. 3 match after the senior duo of Justin Raiti and Bernie Lancaster defeated Josh King and Nick French, 8-0. The match was followed by a No. 1 victory by senior Boris Barrios and junior Mick Walter against Bronson Vaughan and Richard Abel, 8-5. The final doubles match was also a Hilltopper victory after senior Brett Powers and sophomore Ned Boone took the No. 2 match against Phillip Allen and Clint Baird, 8-2.

The Hilltoppers continued the streak as Boone took the No. 1 match against King, 6-3, 7-6. In the No. 2 match, Raiti defeated Vaughan, 6-4, 6-2. Walter followed in the No. 3 match as he shutout Abel, 6-0, 6-0. Barrios took the No. 4 match over French, 6-2, 6-1. In the No. 5 match, Wiggins defeated Allen, 6-3, 6-3. Lancaster took the final match against Baird to complete the Hilltopper sweep, 6-1, 6-4.

The Hilltoppers will be back in action Friday as they travel to Dallas to take on East Central. First-serve is set for 1 p.m.
