The UTPB women’s cross country team began their season this weekend (September 4, 2010) by finishing second, coming up short of first place by just one points. The Lady Falcons, who tallied a total of 31 points, were shy a single point of host and winning team Texas A&M International. The Lady Dustdevils finished with 30 points to win the event.
Monica Tavarez was the first Lady Falcon across the finish line as she posted a time of 20:34, which allowed her to finish third overall. Ariel Renteria finished two seconds later for fourth overall with a time of 21:24. Lorianne Pattee would finish fifth overall, giving UTPB three of the top five finishers on the women’s side. Overall, UTPB had five ladies finish in the Top 12.

The UTPB men’s cross country team began their season this weekend (September 4, 2010) by winning the Texas A&M International Invitational. The Falcons tallied 22 points on the day and cruised to the victory as Texas A&M International finished a distant second place with 50 points.
Raudel Miranda, a transfer from El Paso CC, won the event with a 16:17 time. James Blessinger was just four seconds behind and finished second overall. Freshman Rolando Rodriguez followed Blessinger seven seconds later to finish third and give the three top spots to the UTPB runners. In all, five of the top nine spots in the events belonged to Falcons.
Second year head cross country coach Josh Caudill was excited with the Falcons’ performance. “I am very proud of the team. It was the first time in school history that we have won a meet,” Caudill stated. “This being our first race of the year, it causes us to have high expectations for the season.”
