The DBU Patriots Cross Country Teams swept the 2011 Heartland Conference cross country championships on Saturday in Laredo, Texas. The championship marked the fifth straight title for the Lady Patriots and the second straight for the Patriots men's team.
The Lady Patriots were led by Freshman Kelsey Bruce, who covered the course in 22:40:7, which was a few seconds better than the second place runner, Rubi Torres from Newman. The Lady Patriots had five runners finish in the top ten, including three to finish in the top five. DBU ran away with the race by beating the second place Newman Jets by 30 points.
The Patriots men's team edged out the Dustdevils from Texas A&M International by just nine points. The Patriots had four runners finish in the top 10 with their best finish coming from Edwin Kiptoo, who finished in third. Gideon Busienei from Oklahoma Panhandle State won the individual championship with a time of 26:41:6, which was 16 seconds faster than the second place runner, Raudel Miranda from Texas-Permian Basin.
