Newman University 's Scott Nuss has been named the 2010-11 Heartland Conference Sports Information Director of the Year, conference officials announced at the organization's annual meeting Thursday. The award is voted on by the sports information directors in the Heartland Conference.
"Scott was an integral part of the conference this year," Heartland Conference Sports Information Director Larry Northcutt said. "From helping out on several different occasions including the development of a revamped player of the week nomination form, to his assistance at a number of conference tournament, we could not have had the year we had without his help. He is a hard worker and a true professional in the sports information world."
In his second year as the Sports Information Director at Newman, Nuss played an critical role in promoting the Newman athletic program on the regional and national level.
"Scott has been a very vocal leader, not only within our conference, but within the South Central region as well," St. Edward's University Sports Information Director Logan Lawrence said. "He has taken on many assignments within the region, and has represented the Heartland Conference well. He, in my opinion, helped put on the greatest event of the season in the nationally televised women's basketball game."
Other Sports Information Directors in the conference pointed to Nuss's willingness to lend a helping hand when needed.
"He has been a valuable resource for me since I took this position in August, 2010," St. Mary's Sports Information Director Chad Peters said. "He will respond to phone calls and emails no matter when I might leave them. He has also been an invaluable resource in assisting with the Heartland Conference tournaments we have hosted."
Nuss began his stint at Newman in July, 2009 following a two-year term as a graduate assistant in the Athletic Media Relations office at Wichita State University . In those two years he has served as the South Central Regional Coordinator for the Daktronics All-America program, and is also a voting member of the National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association's South Central District.
