For the eigth consecutive year, the Dallas Baptist Women's Cross Country clinched the Heartland Conference title by winning today's Conference Championship in Wichita, Kansas. The Lady Patriots placed five runners in the top 15, highlighted by
Anna Salazar's second place finish with a time of 22:25.17 in the 6k event. Winning the outright Heartland Conference Individual Championship was Rebekah Hernandez from Texas A&M International, she covered the course in 22:03.
The Lady Patriots placed four runners on the All-Heartland Conference Team including,
Anna Salazar who earned her top finish of the year with a second place showing. Joining Salazar on the All-Conference Team were teammates
Cashlee Rayas, who finished fourth with a time of 22:43.97;
Kristaly Munoz, who crossed the finish line in 10th place; and
Sarah Rayas who finished 11th out of the field of 75.
Brianna Ortiz and
Becca Peterson were each named Honorable Mention All-Conference after finishing in 13th and 15th place respectively.
DBU totaled a score of 40 to win the team title. In second was Rogers State with a score of 64, and NU was third with 110.
In fourth place was Texas-Permian Basin with 118, Texas A&M International was fifth at 120. UA Fort Smith finished sixth with 122, and Oklahoma Christian was seven with a score of 139. Lubbock Christian totaled a score of 184 for eighth place, and Oklahoma Panhandle State was ninth with 285.
"Out of all eight conference championships that we've won, this is the one I'm most proud of for the ladies. We have overcome injuries, illnesses, and redshirts, and came together today to win. This was the best performance of the season for this group of girls. We are excited for the NCCAA Championships and the Regional Championships over the next two weeks," stated Head Coach, Jacob Phillips.
DBU will be in action again when they travel to Houghton, New York, for the NCCAA National Championships on November 15. Following the NCCAA's, the Lady Patriots make the trek to Denver, Colorado, for the NCAA Regional Championships on November 22.
