St. Edward's Moves into Championship Match after Convincing Victory over St. Mary's

Austin, Texas - The St. Edward's Hilltoppers defeated St. Mary's 5-1 on Thursday afternoon in the second semifinal match of the Heartland Conference men's soccer tournament.  

The Hilltoppers started off fast by scoring three goals in the first 24 minutes of the game.  Josh Taylor, Samuel Jackson and Pablo Covarrubias scored the first three goals.  

Steve Aoudou and Dylan Armstrong finished off the scoring for St. Edward's, who put the match away in the first half taking a 5-0 lead into intermission. 

St. Mary's scored their lone goal of the match in the second half when Juan Sanchez scored off an assist by Gonzalo Orozco.  

Leading the Hilltoppers was Taylor who scored one goal and assisted on two other goals.  Armstrong also assisted on a goal for a multi point match. 

With the loss St. Mary's is eliminated from the tournament and wrapped up their season with a 8-9 overall record, including 4-4 in Heartland Conference play.  St. Edward's advances to the championship match against Texas A&M International with the victory.  The match will be played on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in Austin.
