DALLAS, Texas - For the fourth-straight season, the Rattlers of St. Mary’s have claimed the Heartland Conference Championship. StMU defeated St. Edward’s in shutout fashion with a 5-0 win.
StMU came out of the gate fast sweeping doubles play 3-0. The No. 22-ranked team in Division II of Cristina Lopez and Hannah Petersen picked up a win at No. 2 doubles with an 8-4 win over Valentina Martinez. No. 17 Jamie Lee Denton and Kaylin Kruseman sealed the sweep with an 8-5 win over St. Edward’s top pairing of Anjali Sampath and Marissa Williams.
St. Mary’s continued to roll in singles getting wins from Kruseman and Lopez. Kruseman cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 straight-set victory at No. 3 singles, and Lopez clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Marissa Williams at No. 2 singles.
The 12th-ranked Rattlers will advance to the Division II South Central Regional, which will likely be held in San Antonio by virtue of StMU’s No. 1 regional ranking.
