WACO, Texas – St. Edward’s starter Ryan Hill and UAFS outfielder Tremarcus Koontz picked up the first Heartland Conference Baseball Player of the Week awards of the 2019 season. The awards were given for games played from Feb. 1 – Feb. 3.
Hitter of the Week
Tremarcus Koontz, UAFS
Outfielder, Sr., Mount Pleasant, Texas
UAFS outfielder Tremarcus Koontz batted 0.538 with seven hits, including two doubles and one home run during a 3-0 week for the Lions to open the 2019 season. The senior also drew a pair of walks and reached base at a .600 clip. He also added five RBI, including a three-RBI performance in an 11-1 run rule of defending MIAA Champion Northwest Missouri State. Koontz is tied for the conference lead in hits following the first weekend with seven. This is Koontz’s first career player of the week award.
Pitcher of the Week
Ryan Hill, St. Edward’s
Starting Pitcher, Jr., Katy, Texas
St. Edward’s starter Ryan Hill was devastating on the mound in his first start of the season holding Northeastern State scoreless over six innings while allowing just two hits and three baserunners in the outing. Hill struck out ten Riverhawk batters, and struck out the side in the second inning. The Katy native helped the Hilltoppers to a run-rule win in the game and a perfect 3-0 start to the season. This is Hill’s first weekly award in the Heartland Conference.
