Leslie Schuemann enters her fourth year with the Heartland Conference and serves as the Senior Associate Commissioner.
Schuemann oversees many of the conference’s internal operations. Her duties include sports supervision, compliance, championship administration, strategic planning, membership services and development of the conference’s governance structure. Schuemann also serves as the Senior Woman Administrator and oversees the Heartland’s SWA committee made up of SWA’s from the conference’s 9 institutions. During her time with the conference, Schuemann has implemented the conference Women's Leadership Summit, an annual gathering of the conference's SWAs.
In addition to her duties with the conference, she also serves at the national level as the chair of the NCAA Division II Membership Committee where she assists in reviewing and considering issues pertaining to the Division II membership requirements and membership compliance issues.
Schuemann joined the Heartland Conference in June of 2015 following a stint as the Director of Athletics at Fresno Pacific University where she spent three years, one as senior associate athletics director and two as FPU’s director of athletics.
Prior to her time at FPU, Schuemann spent five years at the NCAA's national office in Indianapolis as the assistant director of academic and membership affairs. During that time she was instrumental in the formation of the NCAA Division II membership process and also oversaw the Division II NCAA Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Before the NCAA, Schuemann was at Texas A&M Kingsville in the Lone Star Conference for eight years, five years as the assistant athletic director for compliance and senior woman administrator and three as an academic advisor. She holds bachelor's and master's degrees from Texas A&M Kingsville.
