WACO, Texas - Oklahoma Christian’s Ethan Smith and Dallas Baptist University’s Addison Mitchell have been named the Heartland Men’s and Women’s Golfers of the Week for tournaments played from Oct. 4 - Oct. 11.
Men’s Golfer of the Week
Ethan Smith, Oklahoma Christian
Junior, Edmond, Okla.
Playing in a Division I tournament, Smith posted a top-20 finish in the Bill Ross Intercollegiate at Milburn Golf and Country Club (par 72, 7,054 yards) in Overland Park, Kan. The junior shot 76-71-76--223 (+7), posting his best score of the season in the second round and tying for 19th in the 69-man field. He led OC, which was the only Division II squad among the 12 teams in the tournament, to an eighth-place finish, beating Creighton, Evansville, Omaha and Northern Iowa. This is Smith’s first golfer of the week award this season.
Women’s Co-Golfers of the Week
Addison Mitchell, DBU
Sophomore, Fort Smith, Ark.
Addison Mitchell led the Lady Patriots to a first place finish at the DBU Women's Golf Classic and claimed the top spot on the individual leaderboard with a 2-over par, 218. Mitchell overcame a nine-stroke deficit going into the final round and carded a 3-under, 69, over the final 18 holes to notch her second win of the fall season. This is Mitchell’s second weekly honor this season.
