Men’s Golfer of the Week
Joaquin Arguelles, Dallas Baptist
Sophomore, Oaxtepec, Mexico
Joaquin Arguelles shot a 142 (-2) to claim the individual medal at the St. Mary's Invitational this week on the par-72, 6,937-yard course at The Dominion Country Club. The Oaxtepec, Mexico, native edged out WTAMU's Braxton Sides by one stroke to earn his first win of the 2016-17 season. Arguelles carded a 68(-4) on day one to take the early lead and held off Sides on day two, finishing two-under.
Women’s Golfer of the Week
Maria Regina Gonzalez, St. Mary’s
Sophomore, San Miguel, Mexico
Maria Regina Gonzalez won a thrilling four-hole playoff against Tarleton State's Sarah Gee to take home the individual title at the St. Edward's Invitational. She shot a 68 and a 73 for a two-round total of 141 to capture the crown and help lead the Rattlers to second place as a team. Following overnight thunderstorms that caused a 30-minute delay prior to Round 1, the 15 teams in the field enjoyed nearly perfect weather -- albeit a wet course -- the rest of the way.
