WACO, Texas - Texas A&M International’s Justin Kim and St. Mary’s junior Maria Regina Gonzalez were named the Heartland Golfers of the Week for tournaments played from Feb. 21 - Feb. 27.
Men’s Golfer of the Week
Justin Kim, Texas A&M International
Sophomore, Plano, Texas
Sophomore Justin Kim won his first individual collegiate title at the 2018 South Padre Intercollegiate, shooting a 146 over two days shooting rounds of 71 and 76. Kim tied for the tournament title before winning the title in a two-hole playoff. This is Kim’s first player of the week award.
Women’s Golfer of the Week
Maria Regina Gonzalez, St. Mary’s
Junior, San Miguel, Mexico
StMU’s Gonzalez led St. Mary's to its first tournament win of the spring season at the Islander Classic. With the field made up of primarily NCAA Division I programs, the junior finished the tournament tied for fifth, after shooting a final round 74. This was her fourth straight top-five finish of the season as the Rattlers moved to No. 6 in the nation - best in program history. This is Gonzalez’s first player of the week honor this season.
