WACO, Texas - UAFS senior Chris Eckes and DBU freshman Evelyn Arguelles picked up the final Heartland Men’s and Women’s Golfer of the Week honors this season. The awards were given for tournaments played from April 4 - April 10.
Men’s Golfer of the Week
Chris Eckes, UAFS
Senior, Fort Smith, Ark.
The senior shot a blistering 4-under par 206 (67-71-68) to win the Hardscrabble Invitational at Hardscrabble Country Club, considered one of the most-challenging courses in the region. Eckes shot below par during two of the three rounds to win by three strokes. Texas A&M-Commerce teammates Lucas McCubbin (68-70-71) and Wilfredo Sanchez (67-71-71) finished tied for second with a 1-under 209. This is Eckes’ third player of the week award this season.
Women’s Golfer of the Week
Evelyn Arguelles, DBU
Sophomore, Oaxtapec, Mexico
DBU sophomore Evelyn Arguelles won individual medalist honors and helped lead the Lady Patriots to a team title at the Mustang Intercollegiate in Goodyear, Arizona against a loaded field that featured four Top 25 teams. Arguelles carded a 4-under par, 140 over two rounds to best a field of 104 golfers. It marked Arguelles' second individual title this spring. This is Arguelles’ second weekly honor this season.
